Early forecasts look promising for Miller on Saturday.

It does look like it might be good. Dr. Jack 39 hour forecast preducts Top of Lift 13-14k, -3 at 11-12k, 600 fpm lift, east winds. ADDS says the east will be with us all day, not a surprise given this week's generally east winds.

The only caution from ADDS is the 11 AM wind velocity at 9k is 15-20 kts, dropping to 5-10 by 5 PM. If accurate, penetration for PGs might be an issue if you get high early in the day.

I'm up for it, anyone else want to meet at Houghton and I-10 tomorrow morning at 8:30?

I plan to be there, as it's difficult to pass up a day of east winds at Miller. So, unless the evening forecast looks really bad, I'll see you at Houghton and I-10 at 8:30.

The Aspen trees were beginning to change color and tossed up some big air. Huge areas of lift were enjoyed by 4 stiffies and 3 baggers today. Dr speck, j-lo, rafe and e-tucker were riding the stiffies. Terry, JohnW and I in the bags. Rafael got a long soaring flight today and had his first experience in finding it challenging to get down. Eric enjoyed the big lift after a year's hiatus, and j-lo was all over the Huachucas before he decided to cross the valley and land at the bird sanctuary.

Of the flaccid fliers, I dummied off first in what turned out to be the only good breeze that came up launch all day. It lifted me right off the hill and that thermal didn't stop until I left it at 13.5k. There wasn't much breeze on launch, but Terry and John Wolf managed to get off the hill. Up wasn't ever a problem today. I crossed most of the valley without turning and still stayed above 12k. A rarity at Miller- there was NO wind at altitude. It would have been a perfect day for a big triangle flight.

Pretty sporting conditions for we aluminumless pilots, with peak climb rates into the upper teens. The lift covered tremendous expanses of space and while most had reasonably soft edges, they still got your attention.

The common conversation in the lz were stories about how difficult it was to get Down!

Morey forgot to mention that he did an out-and-back over halfway to the bird sanctuary himself.

I spent about a 20 minutes low on the south face of Bob Thompson peak waiting for those rocks to kick off something organized enough to get up and out of there. All the talk on the radio about lift going off everywhere convinced me not to just give up and land down there. Just needed to wait a little longer, and it came around.

Great turnout and great air for the first flying day of the fall season. I definitely second the vote of thanks to our great wire crew and drivers.
