I just realized that I have an alternative to hiking Mustang. So I'll try and be in the LZ between 2:00 & 3:00 with the lawn mower.

Thanks to everyone who we met today! Had a great flight at mustang. I think Mike agrees too, he got 2 off it! And Wyatt is right, speedflying is ground launching and speedriding is done with skis. I only know of one ski resort in the US that allows it. Otherwise we have to go to Europe.

Flight Report

It was a classic Mustang day. As I approached the LZ about 2:00 I could see Andy was already in the air and subsequently Wyatt launched to join him. As I set up the noise maker, Scott arrived and started the hike up with his mega pack and foam camera mount. I got airborne about 2:50 and used some light thermals to take me to launch. By this time Wyatt had scored some sink in front of the Biscuit and had landed out front. Guido also got airborne and he and Andy worked light lift mostly near launch. As I looked down I could see Mike or Jake kiting a speed wing. I thought, "Damn that's small!" But I was soon educated in their aerial capabilities as both Mike and Jake showed us slower folks how they flew. After about an hour Guido top landed (he claimed he needed a break) and subsequently Scott took to flight. About that time conditions strengthened, and I was about 500' above launch in a late afternoon thermal when my motor quit. Since my hands were pretty cold (I've got to find some gloves thick enough to keep my hands warm but thin enough to allow me to manipulate throttles and biner releases), I opted to make my way to the LZ. Subsequently Guido launched again and landed, and eventually Andy followed him to the LZ. When I left about 5:15, Scott was hanging out in what appeared to be Mustang glass, and the clouds were just starting to get a hint of orange in preparation for a Mustang sunset. Thanks to Jake and Mike for the speedflying demonstration, and welcome back Guido to southern Arizona. Scott, we'll look forward to some footage from the canopy cam. Mike and Jake if you've got some speedflying video that would be great, and Andy you must have a few pictures from your hours in the air.

This is Mike, and it's the very first speedwing flight that I know of in AZ south of the Craters! You're gonna wanna put it on full-screen to see the guy. But you can definitely hear him!

Your music deprived us of your monologue :)

You should post this on the AHGA site too!

does it take 2 hrs to upload a video to youtube? That vid alone took that long. You can post it on ahga if you want, I've never set up an account on their forum.

Yeah, it took like 40 minutes to upload that 3 minute clip you gave me.

Hey, Scott, you got a video to share with us? :D
