Hey there. My plans are finalized and I'll be in Tucson from Dec 31st to Jan 7th. If anyone is thinking of heading out to a para friendly site, I'd love to go.
Thanks to Morey for the kind response to other post.

Saturday the 30th looks like a possibility for flying Box in the afternoon. I've got one report that says it's gonna' be too strong, and another that says just right. Tomorrow morning will give a better forecast. If not- Sunday looks good.

Anybody game for PG (or HG) at Box tomorrow?

It's a bit early to tell, but tomorrow could be more of a stiffie day than a bag day at Box if the forecasts are correct. Sunday could be better for the bag wings. I'll recheck the weather in the foggy morning.

The forecasts are still calling it a bit brisk (both windy and cold) for the bag wing. Tomorrow looks better. Today looks better for the stiffies.

I think I'll wait for a hike and a PG tomorrow.

Ick. I'm looking at the lightest, most stable day I've seen in a year. Light N-NNE and a terrible lapse rate.

Granted- normal low level flow *could* take over and give us just enough to float above the terrain- but the soundings forecast sure doesn't indicate that.

any body else have thoughts?

Forecast

Welcome to Tucson Lance. If it helps you plan your visit, the flying weather is looking a bit unsettled this week. Tomorrow's forecast is strong east so not flyable. Wednesday may not be much better. Trying to forecast beyond that isn't too useful. Generally what we need to fly the bag wing is light westerly winds (less than 10 knots) up to 6,000 ft, and less than 15 at 9,000 ft. I might be able to get out Thursday, but won't know for sure until Thursday morning. I'll call you if it looks flyable. If the weather permits, Saturday is the day most of us are able to fly.

I'll be working tomorrow- but actually, it looks perfect for Miller on Wednesday. A nice light east breeze and decent lapse rate for the winter. (that is- if the Carr Canyon road isn't closed).

This morning's forecast shows SW flow. Unfortunately a bit too strong for the bag wings. I was hoping it would be lighter and we could have flown Mustang. With a weather system moving through, the next 2 days aren't looking really promising either. However, for those with stiffies, this could be a nice Whetstone day.

I just looked at the winds for Saturday- and I'd say it's an 80% chance of being good at Box today. Mark Williams is wanting to go out. He'll give Lance a call. I've got my list of honeydo's (plus- it's pretty cold today).

Any adult supervision for Mark? I suggested that he enjoy the day kiting his new Bolero.

Of course- any flying to be done would be done from the lower launch, the once below the fence line on State Trust land, for which we have a current and valid permit. The upper launches are on Forest Service land for which are permit is still in the works.
