Saturday 12 Nov flying

OK. It's thursday afternoon. I've looked at 4 weather forecasts for Saturday and have seen 4 different wind directions. I haven't a clue as to where to recommend right now. The weather trough is going through tomorrow morning, and it looks like the models aren't sure what's going to happen afterwards. Given the current position of the highs, lows and Jet stream pattern right now on the national chart, I'm totally in agreement with the models. Clueless.

I think we should take bets

OK, it's Friday at 11:30am. forecasts are still not converging. ADDS has a nice light NE all day. NWS says it will start out NE, then turn E, to SE, to then S later in the afternoon. Intellicast is going for NE turning N. The only convergence I see here is that it will be light NE in the morning. So- sounds like an opportunity to check out the new road bypass location on Miller.

As of Friday at 5:30pm it's looking like a Miller Day. should be blowing lightly from the NE to E through most of the day. Don't think that we need to rush there at the crack of dawn. I was thinking Houghton &I10 around 8:30am putting us in the LZ around 9:30 ish.

Morey,
Are you gambling or flying?
Flying shouldn`t be that hard to guess, for Sat. I`am wondering about tomorrow?? The cut off low will make that fore cast difficult, Box in the afternoon, 15 to 18mph. Sat will be post frontal? right? Box or the Stang`s.

The by pass is flagged out down at Miller, we could go there early and estimate the material yardage to move and map it! Then go flying?
What do you think?

I'm available for Miller on Sat., just let me know early enough.

As for Frid. afternoon at Box, I could be out at the Lz by 2-2:15 pm. (I'm playing golf till 1pm). Winds look good out of the W/ WSW at 10-8 mph in the valley. Possible rain somewhere in the area around 4pm. I won't show up unless I get a call 520-906-0182.

Today looks like a good HG day for Box but may be a bit windy for the bag wings. Too early to tell for tomorrow. I've got committments for tomorrow PM so may not be able to fly.

Fred, it's looking like a great day for some mellow valley-thermal soaring on Saturday. How is your schedule between 11 and 3?

I had multiple 7 to 10 minute power off climbs during the hour from 3 to 4pm last Friday after work while playing around in docile mixing. Each climb was good for about 500 feet starting at around 1k over the desert to the east of Marana. Nothing spectacular but a nice distraction from the mundane.

Do we have consensus on Miller tomorrow morning? What time and where are we meeting? I can carry lots of PG pilots and their aircraft, and I live on the NW side of Tucson. Please post here, send me e-mail (john_wolfe@mentor.com), or ring me at 906-4868 if you want a ride.

Looks like a Miller day for Sat. Eric is meeting some people at Houghton and I-10 at around 8:15 am. I'm planning to be in the Lz between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m. Hopefully it should be good late morning.

This is Dennis. A new P2 member. I was sitting in the booth with Fred at the meeting Tuesday.

I plan on being at I-10 and Houghton at 8:15. I would like to drive to Miller and will need to follow or get directions.

Dennis:

S route 10 East from Tucson. Near Benson, exit on Rt. 90 South towards Sierra Vista. At Sierra Vista, do not follow Rt. 90 as it takes a left (East) turn into town (unless you want to eat). Go straight (south) past main gate of Ft. Huachuca onto Buffalo Soldier Trail. Road will turn east. Make a right (south) at light onto Rte. 92. LZ is on right (SW side) about a mile after Carr Canyon Road and the Mesquite Tree Restaurant. Enter to right over cattle guard on Mountain Vista Road, drive ten feet, park in dirt spot on left. Enjoy view of Huachuca mountains.

SAHGA turned out in force, well kind of.
Jason and Chuck and I rode down to MIller with John. Justin met us in the LZ and Morey and Gunther and John W and Dennis came out as well. The weather was no surprise, post frontal winter conditions, light in the morning and norh west in the afternoon. Some one said that would happen? o yah that was me, see previous post.
Jason and Chuck and John and I checked out the road work needed. Also Jason made some sketches of the ramp work after some testing below launch.
Around 1130 Justin and I set up and launched, from the Hg ramp. Gunther launched from the hike out east launch. Typical winter light stuff. Gunther streched it out to 20 minutes and Justin around 18 and I stayed aloft 19 minutes. I saw Guido launching as I was leaving?? I am not sure how long he flew. We heard on the radio that Jon W had hung his canopy up in a tree?
At any rate, progress was made on the final proposal for the Miller road and ramp fix.
