Dare I say that Miller looks good for Sat?
I may be able to get some student drivers?
I would fly in the morning and train in Sonota in the afternoon, any takers for morning flying?

I'd like to get the Falcon out at Miller. I still need to launch the new SE ramp.

John,
don't give up so quickly. The NWS hasn't a clue as to what the winds will be like this far in advance. 10-14 could easily change to 6-8. Even AFTER the saturday morning sounding report.

There's a chance that I might be able to commit aviation on Sat. Sure would be fun, not having to worry about a tree landing. (instead, I get to worry about dust devils, the Miller Monster, hail, lightning, gust fronts, and a sun so hot you can fry an egg on your vario).

As of Friday afternoon, the models are predicting 20kts SE. OD possible starting around noon. Still very possibly flyable.

Once in a decade

I think it's time to get my Falcon out. It's been a long time, so I'll need essentially perfect conditions. Saturday would be ideal. I'll be watching the weather and the massage board.

Weather looks like crap

Post by jlowery » Fri Aug 21, 2009 2:22 pm

It's raining in Sierra Vista now, and TWC says it will be raining there all night and into tomorrow morning. Winds aloft look OK, SE all day and lighter later in the day, but it looks rainy all day long.

Personally, I don't think the chances are worth the drive unless the forecast changes considerably in the next 8 hours.

John

P.S. Here's a Sierra Vista webcam with current weather displayed. It says he hasn't had any rain at his house. http://members.cox.net/azrandy2/randyswc.html

From what I see of the forecast, I tend to agree with John. Apparently the combination of the monsoon high and a low to the southwest is bringing in a bunch of moisture and strong SE winds. I'm going to be out until about 10 PM this evening but will check the message board when I get back. If someone would post the final decision for tomorrow I'll know whether to head to Houghton and I-10 in the morning or sleep in. Thanks

Scott, we definitely need to get you out in the Falcon when the weather permits us all to fly.

Now I know how to make it rain in Tucson - I decide to flying. Why didn't I think of this weeks ago?

Yeah, I'd like to ease back into the air. I should probably run around the park a few times and make a few bunny hill flights. It would be helpful to have you guys - Eric, Morey, Fred, John, et. al. - critique my technique, especially launching and landing.

Maybe I'll drag the gear to the park this weekend, set everything up, and run around in the grass. My reserve is certainly due for a repack.

Which way do the battens go in?

Spent the day scooter towing in Casa Grande- three of my students towed up to 150 feet and released! Big deal for them!
We had 45 tows no bent bars. One pilot who had not flown in a year got a couple of flights.
Practicing landings and approaches definetly works!

Stick a fork in me I am done!
( It was a long day!)
