Now it looks like Mustang might work today. Is anyone interested?

I've got either a cold or the dreaded swine flu, so won't be able to fly until probably next week. Mustang might work, but the forecast today looks light, anywhere from SE to NW.

You or anyone else up to flying Mustang or Box tomorrow? I'll probably be in town by noon. I was looking at the forecast, looks like 10-15 mph SW. Too high for Mustang?

right now the prediction for tomorrow is WSW in the low teens. That's too strong for PG at the Mustangs.

However, it could easily be a few kts less when we look at the soundings prediction tomorrow morning. Might be perfect. Too early to tell.

There is a small chance I can make it. I'll watch this space.

The wind was ESE 3 to 15 at 2 PM, decreasing to 4 to 12 at 3 PM, in the LZ. I did'nt bother to hike.

well Lew- that's pretty close to what the soundings forecast was calling for. However, the surface winds were predicted to be SW. Sometimes you never know.

Saturday is looking too NW for Mustangs as of 10pm. Box is a possibility, although I may not be able to make it.

I've checked three different forecasts and they all say WSW for Mustang/Sierra Vista/Ft. Huachuca. Only one of the three says winds will be over 10 mph. I'll probably be out there at around noon if anyone else wants to scope it out. 520-289-7512.

Wyatt is at the LZ and says the wind is 240 degrees at 5 to 8 mph. I will leave for Mustang shortly.

Report Nov. 21

Post by lewsmith » Sat Nov 21, 2009 9:00 pm

Today (Friday Nov. 21) was a good day at Mustang - 3 pilots and 3 flights. Wyatt got 2 flights - the first around noon and fhe second around 3 PM. I went for my usual glassoff about an hour before sunset. Kirk showed up a bit too late to launch. The wind was SW to WSW. Wyatt said the wind for his first flight was "textured" and the second was smooth. At glassoff time, the wind aloft was 18 to 20 (or maybe 22), smooth, with lots of lift. At sunset there was no wind in the LZ.
