Weekend flying

It's predicted southwest all weekend long, so Miller isn't going to work.
Randy Kerchill tells me that Tony and Megan Barton are in town, and Eric Smith and I will join them somewhere, not sure where yet.
If it's strong enough, the Whetstones could be good, if a little warm. If it's lighter, we might get away with Box. The forecasts are trending breezier, so I'm thinking the Whestones could work both days.
Dr. Jack has the predicted lift at 700-800 fpm, top of lift around 17k, -3 around 12k. Good numbers if you can get there.
So how about it? Anyone else interested?

Whetstones or Box
I'm intrested but I want to get up the hill early before it gets cooking. I'd like to be high in the air by the time the ground gets cooking.

Another data point: I heard from Davis Chappins in Phoenix. He, Bill and Preston are interested in doing the Whestones on Sunday. They're thinking about Yarnell for Saturday.
I could do Yarnell tomorrow and Whetstones Sunday. I don't know if my tired old ass has two back-to-back Whetstones days in it, though.
Just thinking out loud here, feel free to change my mind

Chicken Hawk sez:

Me either, that was the appeal. On the map it looks to be maybe another 50-60 miles northwest of Phoenix.

Eric points out that the likely top of lift up past Phoenix won't be very high, so maybe we're better off at the Whetstones where it's considerably higher. He's definitely leaning towards S. Arizona. Like you, I'm up for either place and if I have the stamina will try Sunday as well.
One other thing, you PG guys might want to consider Mustang instead of the Whestones. While it has been flown PG (by Pav Dygas) and is an easier hike, there's a lot of catclaw and other junk in the area you'd need to lay out your wings and there isn't a lot of vertical to the launch. You're obviously welcome at the Whetstones, I'm just sayin'.

Re: Weekend flying
So here's the plan...
I'll meet up with Eric at his place at around 10:30 and try to be at Houghton and I-10 by 11:00. Randy Kerchill says he'll meet us there and that Tony Barton will meet us in the Whetstones LZ by noon latest. I think Orrin Smith will also be meeting up with us at his place near Hwy 83 and I-10.
I also heard from Andy Miller, who will be going out a little earlier but would like to PG from the Stones, so we'll hook up with him by phone/radio.
If the conditions turn out lighter than expected we may head back to Box, but hopefully that won't be necessary.

Andy, how was your flight?
I heard that you got a great PG flight Saturday, June 19, at the Wetstones. Tell us about it!

I flew for about 2 hrs got to 10,000ft a couple of times and to 11,000ft once. I hit climb rates as high as 1000ft/min. I had to land because my speed bar line broke off of my risers. I landed on the south side and had to walk about 3/4mile back to the jeep. Over all it was a fantastic first flight at the Stones.
