I have other commitments Sunday (ok the first Bronco game of the season is on and some friends of my son are moving into town) so I'm not an option for a driver.

John Langholff just emailed and offered to come out, take pictuers and drive.

If we need additional drivers I may be able to get my son Sean to come out as well.

Right now ADDS has the winds aloft for 11 AM sunday as 5 kts SE at 6000 and 9000, staying generally east all day long through 5 PM. It looks high-pressure, but nice for both HG and PG.

Meet in the LZ at 9 AM?

I am interested also, and talked with Andy Miller about meeting at Houghton & I-10 at 7:30 to carpool.

Sundays Miller Flight report

Post by amiller » Mon Sep 13, 2010 6:55 am

We had 3 drivers, 4 HGs & 3 PGs show up at the LZ. The sky was completely overcast with an occasional small blue hole opening and then closing backup. On our way to launch it sprinkled on us. When we arrived at launch, the wind was blowing in on the HG launch. Tom launched first around 11:20 and was able to ridge soar the cliff. Eric S. launched second and join Tom in the air and then John L. launched and joined them. All three of them were able to stay up but they were not getting very high (just staying little above the ridge). Eric T. launched about the time Tom had headed out toward the LZ. I waited a while for a light cycle to come in the east launch. I launched around 12:18 and by that time the HGs had headed out to the LZ. I was able to make it around to the south cliff launch and ridge soar just as the HG was doing. Terry launched shortly after he saw that I had no trouble getting around the end. We both play around for a while from the point to the HG launch just as the HGs were doing earlier. Finally I started gaining a little altitude and slowly worked may way farther back and up the hill. Eventually I made it up to 9800ft and was up close to Carr Peak. Terry eventually headed out to the LZ and I started working my way south. I ended up with a short 4.3 mile XC (landed close to the big cross on the hill). John (the photographer) stayed in the LZ and took pictures and then picked me up. Over all it turned out to be a good day.

Extra big thanks to the drivers and thanks to everyone who made it a wonderful day.

Hi Guys,

It turned out to be a good day at Miller on Sunday with everyone getting some airtime. I was first off and had the whole mountain to myself for about 25 minutes. This really helped me get my wings back after not having flown since last September. Then John and Eric joined me and we flew together for about 15 minutes in light lift. Eric Tucker launched andI decided to then head out towards the LZ and see if there was any thermal action. There were a few small thermals but no boomers so I just had a relaxing sled ride down. Andy and Terry flew their PG’s and got quite high over launch. I have two videos that I uploaded to U-Tube for viewing, one of Terry approaching and landing in the LZ and one from my helmet cam. Unfortunately my battery went dead after about a minute which was very annoying so take my advice always install new batteries. I you buy a GoPro Hero camera note that the current draw on the batteries is high and they are done after one flight. No flying today so will relax at poolside and check out some stores in Tucson.

Cheers Tom

Thanks for responding to my call to fly on a Sunday. Good day considering the solid overcast all morning!
A lot of soaring going on an real smooth air!
Fairly accurate write up- thanks Andy- Xc or glide out an down?
I want to thank our support crew as well for all the help. It can`t happen without help!
I had a visit in the LZ with Tom Patterson. Tom stopped by on his bike to say hi! Tom reminded me of our 70`s Salt Lake trip. The I`ll cut your side wires story, came up! To be told at a latter time.
Sure enjoyed working with Tom Morrision and seeing him soaring an soaring with him. It`s great when a plan comes together!
We should be going out again tomorrow,Tuesday, 14 Sept.

Eric
