Box might work in the next few days. The prediction for Thursday, February 24 is looking especially good. I will be looking for weather updates before deciding. A.J. Frye said he was interested in getting a tandem flight. Is anyone else interested? Soren, are you available Thursday? We might be able to arrange a shuttle up the back side of Box.

I am planning to meet AJ at the store/ gas station at the corner of Sahuarita and Houghton at 1PM on Thursday. We plan to drive up the back side of Box. Soren expressed interest - is anyone else interested?

Report on Box flights on Thursday

Post by lewsmith » Sat Feb 26, 2011 11:52 am

Box worked nicely on thursday, february 24. AJ Frye drove us up the back side of Box. Thanks AJ! We hiked to the upper launch. The wind was 10 to 15 mph from the West with a few stronger thermal cycles. I entertained the other pilots with my launch yell and unorthodox launch technique at 4:45. AJ and his tandem passenger launched about 20 minutes later and Soren launched about 5 minutes after AJ. All used the West launch. We all had nice ridge lift mixed with some dying thermals. Surprisingly, the glassoff never happened. AJ did some VERY impressive wingovers over the LZ.
After we landed, the real excitement began. The driver got lost hiking down the mountain trail and had to be rescued at night. Fortunately, everything turned out well.
