It's looking really perfect for Miller for both PG and HG. We'll see tomorrow, of course. There appears to be a little low level low pressure thingy moving right over Tucson tomorrow. Both the NWS and Intellicast are saying light SE in the morning and either SE or NE in the PM. Box may be iffy or could be working down low with a easterly flow up higher. Could be a Gravel Pit day.

But don't listen to me, I'm just pretending to think I know what the winds are going to do. 8)

Sat Plans

The updated winds are looking light south in the AM going to west in the PM. For the bag wings it's looking more like a Box afternoon than Miller morning. We'll check the AM update but Gunter and I are tentatively planning an afternoon hike up Box.

Miller

I am planning on leaving my place at 0730 to 0800 for Miller. If that does not work we may go to Box latter. That should cover it!

Eric.
Can I meet you at Houghton and I10? It's looking still perfect for Miller. Not sure what forecast Fred is looking at. Well, we'll all know more after the morning sounding, As of 10:45pm, ADDS and Intellicast are both solidly SE all the way up, turning to the south later in the day.

Sometimes box is low enough to get into the surface flow that rises to the SE (from the NW), but it doesn't look like it's gonna' be a very high day tomorrow.

Miller looks to be about a sure a thing as I've seen.

I will be in the LZ around 2pm, and expect to be at the lower launch by 3pm, and in the air by 3:20 to 3:30pm. That shoulg give me aprrox. 2hrs of great flying (winds willing). Winds in the valley are projected to be 6-7 mph W.

I'll meet you in the LZ about 2PM. If it's light I may hike to the top. My winds came mostly from the FSL forecast.

Flight Report

Post by Fred » Sat Oct 30, 2004 8:44 pm

Gunter and I got to the LZ just before 2PM. It was blowing light out of the west. Since it was still light at the first knoll I elected to hike to the top. Gunter decided he would wait and bench up. When I got to the top it was blowing west 10-15 with some higher gusts. At that time Gunter reported continued light winds on the first knoll. About 15 min later it switched north on top and also started to blow in on the first knoll. We both got airborne about 3:45. I boated a few hundred over the north bowl while Gunter demonstrated his airmanship and worked his way up the north side to join me. We both enjoyed relatively mellow air and watched the shadows lengthen as we looked down on more hunters' camps than I have seen before at Box. Gunter had a social engagement to attend, so headed to the LZ earlier than usual. I followed after he landed. It was still blowing North about 10 when I touched down around 5PM. The wind slowed down as the sun sank in the west, so I sent the RC aloft for a sunset flight before heading home, thankful for another Box afternoon and feeling lucky that none of the hunters mistook me for something they wanted to shoot.
