interest has been expressed. looks ok for both sides of our winged family. an early start is likely safer, but an ear to the wind and a finger in the nose suggest 8:00 at houghton & I-10 might do.

Current winds aloft forecasts indicate light NE for tomorrow at 11am. Miller is getting slammed with rain this afternoon, so it should be nice and moist, light winds, and bouyant thermals -soft like cotton balls.

if it's not blowing down or in the clouds.

I'm planning on being at I10 and Houghton at 8am myself.

John Wolfe (our newest member)- you wanna' come out and check out a really nice flying site?

I'm in too ... I will not meet at Houghton, as I have to pick up my Dad. We will be in the LZ before you. Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Oh ... I have a driver!

FYI John the Houghton/I10 meeting spot is on the NW corner.

flight report- Miller 14 August '05

Post by morey » Fri Aug 12, 2005 9:45 pm

It was quickly ODing when we got there, with rain over Miller, in the valley and over Ramsey Canyon. Winds were very light. So, we wandered out to the East ramps to enjoy the view of other dumpage over the valley, and noticed how overgrown everything had become. So, after a short nap in the 'burb while it rained, we took Eric's implements of destruction and did much damage to the vegetation that was growing up in our launch ramps. John Lowery, John Wolfe, Eric, Justin, Chuck, Dave Bishop, Jerry Hain and I all pitched in and cleared out the ramps as big, wide and clear as they've every been. Jerry went to get his wing, set up quickly, and took off the East ramp for a sledder, just before the next batch of rain fell from the heavens. The rest of us keyed onto Chuck's words, "I wouldn't fly my [Cessna] 172 near something as big and dark as that". So, heeding our senior club member's wisdom, as well as the rumblings that regularly were being emitted from the darkness above, we all drove down. If anyone really wanted to fly, you could have, as it blew in nicely on the SE ramp for quite some time- but it was pretty ominous conditions. Instead, we called it a successful work day, and headed off to Schlotzski's for lunch- in a torrential downpour.
