"A" Mountain New Year's Day
A pretty good group showed up. Fred Leonard had hiked up the road, while Jason Otto and I waited for the Park department to open the gate at 8 am. As a result, Fred was off the ramp at 8:09 in a S5 breeze for the first flight of 2005. Looking stylish, too, in his traditional white tuxedo jacket. I s...

Re: Beginner
Hi, Earl This is the place! The guy you want to talk to is Eric Smith of Arizona Airfoils, our local instructor, flight director and most frequent flyer. He's in the phone book at (520) 790 3507, and his website is at http://ourworld.cs.com/azairfoils . We frequently organize flying trips on this me...

Re: Training hill for the weekend?
Hi, Jorge I talked to Eric, he's not training this weekend because the direction doesn't look good for the hills in Sonoita tomorrow, and Sunday is likely blown out. He'll be going to the Craters in Flagstaff next weekend, leaving Thursday night, and said he could train on Friday. Also possibly earl...

Saturday flying
Anyone interested? We're meeting at Eric's place at 7 AM tomorrow morning for a run at Miller. That should put us in the LZ at around 9 AM. ADDS says it should breezy southeast in the morning, lighter southeast in the afternoon at 6000 MSL. Saturday is the day, it's likely to be howling southwest on...

Saturday flying
Miller's got that launchable-all-day look for Saturday, at least for the HG folks. Might get too string in the morning or too south in the afternoon for PG off the east launch, but I imagine it would be worth a try. Winds aloft makes it look soarable early. Eric said he's planning on hitting the Mil...

Re: All Weekend
Hi, Justin I'm meeting Eric Smith at his place at 7 AM, he has some tandem students and wants an early start. We'll probably be passing Houghton Road at I-10 (the usual meeting-on-the-way-out-of-town place) by 7:20 or so, and I'm guessing in the Miller LZ at 8:30 or so. Eric is also talking about do...

Miller Saturday Report
Ok :) Jerry Hain, Orrin Smith, Gunter Schmidt and his driver (Rick, I think) and I met visitoring instructor Bill Holmes, another pilot named Bill whose last name I didn't get and their driver, a very nice lady named Ruby. We all threw on with Bill Holmes and drove up to launch where it was blowing ...

Re: Mustang
I'm a HG pilot, but I've heard the PG pilots say that the Mustangs rotor pretty bad with any northwest or north winds. It might not be apparent on launch. I don't know how strong it has to be blowing to be a problem. With Weather Underground Ft. Huachuca saying N at 2 PM going NW by 5 PM, and the Tu...

Re: Miller Saturday?
I'll be picking Orrin Smith and aiming for 9 AM in the LZ.
Bill Holmes (HG instructor from Phoenix) said yesterday he may be bringing some students.
We may need to shuttle up to pick up vehicles if there aren't enough drivers.

Miller Saturday?
I'm planning on trying Miller on Saturday. The soaring forecasts this week have been kind of winter-like, top of lift < 9000. But ya' never know, it might be good.
Anyone else interested in making the trek?

"A" Mountain report
Eric Smith got the first flight back off the "A", a couple of minutes in a light south on a Falcon before landing in the front LZ. Jason Otto arrived shortly after, set up his Falcon, and got another short one. But it was getting stronger, and by the time Mark Sawyer took off he got up to the top of...

Hurricane flying. Or not.
It was raining cats and dogs when the alarm woke me this morning, so no flying today. The fence needed work anyway.
Still watching for the "A" tomorrow, Weather Underground says south 15 by 2 PM. But 80% chance of rain is prediected, so it might be too damp.

Anyone thinking about Miller tomorrow?
It's looking breezy but doable. ADDS says < 10 SSE at 6000' but another source says 10+ 11 and 2. Weather Underground for Fort Huachuca says 5 east at 8 AM, increasing to 10 south at 2 PM and 15 wsw at 5 PM. It looks iffy but could be real good. I think wire crew will be required. I'd like to go out...
