Weekday flying?

Post by SorenTheStorm » Sat Mar 26, 2011 6:56 pm

Hello All,

I'm hoping to do some flying this coming week. It looks like conditions may be favorable for Mustang either Monday or Tuesday, but of course, it's a bit too early to tell.

Either way, I'm pretty open all week (especially Tues.,Wed., and Thurs.) so please feel free to drop a line if anyone is planning on heading out.

Take care,

Soren

Tuesday (March 29) looks good for me (no other plans and the weather looks good for Box - and maybe, just maybe, Mustang).

Lew, my man. The forecasted winds look a bit lame for tomorrow bit I'll try my best to will some prime conditions into reality overnight.

Why don't we touch base in the morning and take it from there.

Soren and I are going to hike Box this afternoon (March 29) and hope to fly from the top launch.

Soren and I hiked to the upper PG launch and enjoyed an exceptionally smooth and strong glassoff. At 4 PM the wind at launch was mostly right up the spine and we hoped that it would swing around to the North, so we waited. At 5 PM the wind was favorable for the north launch, but the wind was gusting up to 25 mph. At 6 PM the gusts were down to 20 mph and I launched. Surprisingly, the wind aloft was smooth as glass and only about 10 to 15 mph. Soren launched shortly after me. There was lift everywhere! We landed at sunset and used big ears and/or spiral dives to get down. I am convinced that the upper launch gives the best flights at Box - it is worth the hike.
