A thermal like the laser on the Death Star!

Okay guys. You know I don't usually post about my flight experiences but I'm afraid if I don't this time I won't be able to get any sleep because I'm still smiling too hard.

So, for the season, I set three main paragliding goals: to get my P3, fly Mingus, and start getting in some XC flights. As some of you know, I got my P3 a while ago. Then, this week, I finally flew Mingus, had a great time, and landed somewhere over the river. Awesome!

So, as for XC, I've managed a handful of super fun flights, the first, actually, being the longest straight line at around 18-20 miles.

That is, until today.

After many months if joking about it, I finally made the flight that's been tempting me all season. That's right Stutz, I flew from a newly developed launch in North Tucson, over the Catalinas, out to the Biosphere 2. It was like a great dream that lasted about 2 hours. Truly amazing. Though it surely won't set any records or anything it sure did put a perma-grin on my face.

Oh, and as a P.S., the Biosphere, being like a giant magnifying glass, apparently throws off massive amounts of heat; the kind that equates to a "oops I crapped my pants" type flying experience. Consider yourself forewarned. Ha.

Well, off to bed. Shit, I'm still smiling too hard to sleep.

I think it was about 27 miles straight line. Again, no record breaker but it was great fun for me.

Damn, Soren. I was hoping to get that flight before you did and then tease you about it!

Well, I think we can safely say that our launch site has been working extremely well all season. Should we reveal it? It's so conveniently close, although the hike can be a bit brutal in 108 degree weather...It still doesn't have an official LZ yet, either.
