The Catalina Highway (the road to Mt. Lemmon) will be closed on Sunday for a marathon, and the forecast for Saturday looks promising.
Anyone interested in flying the Lemmon on Saturday?
Anyone interested in retrieving us if we go XC? To do the XC chase, you don't need to drive up and down the mountain unless you want to do so. You can hang around in town until about noon or so when we launch and start driving only after we're in the air and have established a direction of travel.

It's predicted W Saturday all day everywhere, and SW Sunday all day. Not a Miller weekend at all.

Forecast for the Whetstones on Sunday is SW18 and a soaring ceiling around 16000, with a high temp of only around 70 (!). Looks nice for HG, I'm thinking about going for it. I've never gone over the back at the Whetstones and would like to.

Anyone else interested?

I'm flying out today for a long weekend in Colorado or I would drive for you. Good luck, have nice flights!

Sean will be towing this weekend and posted the following on AZHPA:

Saturday, Ill be in RBV towing for fun... Tow Fee $25 for the day

Sunday, I have a couple of Tandems to fly in the EARLY am then I wanna do another XC Group... If I have enough interest, then Oatman is the place of choice... If not that much interest then RBV is Second choice... Tow & Retreive Fee.. $40 up to 50 miles. Over 50ish miles... add $15.... Gas is getting expensive.

State Record... No Charge, The Days on me...


I'd like to fly at least one day this weekend and maybe both. My preference would be Mt. Lemmon on Saturday and then possibly Oatman for towing on Sunday. Please let me know if you're interested in either option.

Andy, Ewan, Aaron C., Aaron S., and I are planning to fly the Lemmon tomorrow (Saturday).
Since we don't have a driver, we'll stay local, so we should leave at least one vehicle at the In N Out in Oro Valley. Let's plan to leave the In N Out by 8:15.

The Lemmon was good, but not stellar. Aaron C., Ewan, Andy, and I all flew, all found good lift and all went somewhere, as you do from Mt. Lemmon.
Since we didn't have a driver, Andy volunteered to fly to my house to get the retrieve vehicle. We all flew north on various paths before Andy turned back to play around launch and eventually fly out over the valley toward my neighborhood.
Ewan was connecting well over the valley just east of Saddlebrooke at about the time Aaron and I got swallowed by the Creature from the Charleau Gap. Aaron succumbed, landing on the "road" pretty close to the foothills, while I narrowly scratched out a second chance and headed for the thermal Ewan had taken to 8K. Topping out at 9800 in that thermal and drifting rapidly to the east, I turned and ran downwind, first toward the San Manuel airport and eventually to the town itself. Finding no lift in the wind shadow of the mountain, but plenty of ground speed, I landed on the NE edge of San Manuel.
Ewan landed in Saddlebrooke, Aaron hiked out to Lago Del Oro, and Andy collected all of us.
So, a good day at the Lemmon.
Sunday, Ewan and I went to Oatman for some towing with Sean. In three flights I never got up and away (peaking at 4500), but on his second flight Ewan did. He went 49 miles to land in Verrado, NE of Buckeye.
For you HG pilots who haven't been watching the topic on AZHPA, Sean has constructed a platform for HG towing, and he's ready to test it. Sure will be fun to head out for some towing with both types of wings getting into the air.
