Re: Up Air and Down Air
Yeah, the only thing that saved my flight from being a short struggle was a hawk circling in a thermal at around 1000 over the LZ. I had already given up and was checking out wind on the ground until he came along.Morey wrote:Don't frett Ross. It could have been any of us on the ground

Miller Saturday report
Nice day, hot & high-pressure but clear and not too nasty. Good turnout: Fred Leonard and Ross Hughes were the PG representatives, and Eric Smith, Alan Housel, Morey Brown, Jason Otto and I were the HGs. New member and HG pilot Justin Keesling came out to drive for us (thanks, Justin!). It was blowi...

Mingus 9/6 report
Lorraine and I made a day trip up to Mingus to hang out with Alan Housel, who's been inviting us to come up and check it out forever. So we finally made it. It's about a 3.5 hour drive from my house to the campgrounds, 210 miles or so. This is my first trip there and it's a gorgeous place. Launch is...

Mattias is in town!
I just had a call from Mattias Gottman, he's in town for a visit and said he'd meeting us at Eric's at 8 AM tomorrow.
He doesn't have his gear and won't be flying, but it'll be nice to see him again.

A few pictures
A few pictures of the day are posted at http://www.sahga.com/forum/album_cat.php?cat_id=1 Also, I posted a couple of .AVI videos of PG and HG launches. Note - each of these is about 10 MB (>5 minutes each on cable modem, prohibitive on a dial-up) and no one's idea of fine cinematography: Fred, PG fr...

Cloudsuck Open, Saturday report
A pretty good turnout for such an informal event, but it was high pressure, squirrely air on launch and after consulting with the PG guys on the east launch Flight Director Eric cancelled the event for safety reasons. Later on, though, it started to get better, so a couple of guys flew while some de...

Cloud Suck Open
Yes, at Miller. Sorry, I corrected the post.
Surface and 6k winds look north to northeast 5-10 in the mornings, going 10W in the afternoons. Weather Channel says sunny, highs 85-87. Not exactly monsoonal.

"A" Mountain site guide updated
I've updated the "A" mountain site guide to reflect that fact that it will soon be open with restrictions. There is a link to the liability release in the site guide, and contact information for Eric and Gunter. I've also added a link to the liability release in the members-only section for convenie...

Waiver
I've posted a link to the waiver in the revised "A" mountain site guide at http://www.sahga.com/amtn.html . There's also a link to the form in the members-only section. Since SAHGA as well as USHGA memberships were required by the city we'll be discussing temp memberships (a bylaws change) at the ne...

The Cloud Suck Open is this weekend (report added).
The Cloud Suck Open is this weekend at Miller Canyon, rain or shine. SAHGA's traditional informal low-key fun fly, an excuse to camp in the rain and see old friends. Since there was no Miller Fly-in this year we'll be having some events on Saturday and giving the trophies: XC, duration and spot land...
