Light winds predicted. Should be good for both types of wings.

any takers?

I'll be at Houghton/I10 8am to either throw on or pick up others- whatever is needed.

Current soundings prediction says 3kt from the NW, nicely unstable all the way up. ADDS says very light NE- so it should be thermalling up both launches.

If we need a driver- Chaz might be interested in joining us. If someone can go by the UofA area in the morning to retreive him- give him a call 444-7926.

We'll be leaving Eric's place at 7:30, want to make the LZ by 9 AM. If you're throwing on with us, please show up on time to load up.

Gunter's in. Pg pilots meet at Houghton & Suahrita at 7.50 a. m.
520-906-0182.
There's also a chance that if Miller doesn't work, that Mustang may work early afternoon.

I'll be at Houghton and I-10 at 8:45. I can take 4 people with gliders but I need to be back in town by 3:30-so no big cross country chases for my truck.

Saturday Forecast

Post by Fred » Fri Aug 11, 2006 7:29 pm

The evening forecast update is a little strange. Now predicting NW about 5-10 at launch altitude and light west in the LZ. I wish I knew where this north stuff is coming from. I think I'll pass on this weekend and hope for more typical ESE for next weekend's Cloud Suck.

RUCs model is predicting 3kt from NE at 11am tomorrow for 7600msl- as of 9pm Friday night. For Ft. Huachuca. What you looking at?

Both sounding models that I'm looking at this morning are still indicating very light winds <3kts. So I think we're good to go in both types of wings.

Forecast Source

Morey - I was installing a new internet connection so didn't see your message until late this AM. My posted winds last night were from FSL. This morning FSL was showing light WSW (5-10) which makes a little more sense given the locations of the highs and lows. I'll be interested to see what it actually was when you got to Miller today. Hope it was light enough that local flow allowed launching.

What it actually was... was light. perhaps 3kt from the NW or SW- just like the weather forecast said. However the real issue was the clouds. It was socked in over launch and cloudbase was just overhead. Breezes trickled in both launches and a whole bunch of us flew (Stiffies Eric, John, Jason, Eric Tucker and me, and floppy winged pilots Gunter and Rick) without incident, however conditions were very light, nobody got up and flights were all fairly sort. We then retired to Nick's to watch the women's billard contest and sip Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on tap.

So- you didn't miss anything particularly grand, but we all had a nice day.
