I'm interested.

ADDS is showing light winds for tomorrow morning- perfect.
Soundings FSL is claiming 13kts from the NW at launch level- not good.

Hard to say right now.

Hi, Morey. Your flying jacket is still in my truck.

Hopefully all of the weather-guessers will converge on ADDS rather than the other way around.

I would have been frantically looking for my jacket tomorrow morning. Thanks for mentioning it.

Right now, it' looks iffy for Miller. Below launch level- a nice SE flow. Above launch level SSW at 10kts+. Box will certainly be fine tomorrow if necessary.

will look again tonight and tomorrow morning.

Chaz is in town and offered to Drive. He's staying at a hostle in Armory Park area, just south of downtown. I gather we can rouse him in the am.

Eric plans on training in the morning.

Raphael and Debbie plan on meeting us in the LZ at 9 AM.

Anyone else feel like flying? I should be getting to Houghton and I-10 between 7:00-7:30. The cell is 520 444 8105.

terrific John,
Would you rather wait for the rest of us in the LZ until 9am, or meet me at houghton and I10 at 8am?

Aw, crap.

In view of this morning's soundings looking so bad for Miller we've decided to blow that off. Maybe fly Box this afternoon.

We're planning on meeting at 1 PM in the Meadows.

Box Saturday report

Post by jlowery » Mon May 05, 2008 1:51 pm

Eric Smith and Dave Bishop met Morey Brown and I in the Meadows. It was blowing 10-12 continuously out of the northwest, but they had seen it blowing south all the way from Sonoita to just a mile or so south of the Meadows. So we headed up hoping that the local winds were the winds aloft.

When we got to launch it was blowing in nicely, so we hurried and set up.

Eric was off first, and got a few hundred over. He headed over to the PG launch but didn't get much there, so went back to the bowl on the north side of the HG launch and got up to over 12000! He didn't go OTB right then, though, he was waiting for Morey and me.

By the time Morey and I were ready to launch the cycles were getting further apart and more cross. Finally Morey got a nice one and had a perfect launch. He didn't get very high above launch, and soon headed out for the PG ridge. Unfortunately, there he found a significant roter and got drilled all the way down to the first knoll.

I was off in the next decent cycle a few minutes later, and got over by working in very close. I headed over to the PG southwest face just as Morey was landing in the front LZ, and scraped there for almost an hour never getting very high. I landed with just over an hour.

Eric had gone over the back from up near Helvetia, but much lower than he planned, and having to work with a quartering headwind to get back to the Meadows. He had just enough to get there, for about an hour in the air.

Nice day, a lot like last week. There were some good thermals, but they were few and far between, probably because it was kind of late in the day.

A big thanks to Dave Bishop for driving once again.

John
