Flying Get Together

Post by allen » Tue Dec 23, 2008 5:56 pm

Happy holidays,
The ahga members are having an informal flying event, the 2nd,3rd,and 4th of Jan. It will be at Casa Grande mtn. off Hauser Rd. There will be several tug pilots ,a scooter tow and possibly a payout winch or two.
This is open to both softies and stiffies. This should be a great time.We will be deep frying a turkey on sat. No fees, but if you could bring a covered dish for pot luck that would be great.
We will be camping, but there are hotels in the area.
Hope to see you there,
Allen

SAHGA members this is the event we spoke of at the last meeting, any aerotow rated pilots can tow up with Mark Knight behind his Dragoon fly.

If there is interest, I will also bring my platform tow rig.

We are trying to set up another aerotow clinic to rate a few pilots in the near future as well, anyone interested please contact myself or Greg Berger.

Where is Hauser Rd?

Seems like I towed there years ago. Is it SE of Gilbert? Can't bring it up on Google maps...anyone got a cross street?

Directions to Houser road tow area

Post by Eric » Wed Dec 31, 2008 7:23 am

Hi Guy`s,

Look`s like a good map. Here are the direction`s Allen gave me. I-10 to exit 203 lt under the freeway quarter mile to Sunland Gin road south to Houser about 2 miles.
Or
Exit 200 Lt under the freeway to Houser road drive west several miles to Tow area.( this will take you thru a housing development)
Should be plenty of area to fly the PPG as well.

How much are you guys charging for tows, and how much runway and line do you have for the scooter tow and payout winch? Finally, Are the operators familiar with PG towing?

Just to make sure everyone understands.

There will be a Trike Tug there.
I think he charges 25.00 to 2500 feet AGL.

I will fly the Dragonfly there on Saturday maybe Sunday (weather permitting).
I am not leagal to tow yet.
Trying to finish up Private Pilot Licence in the next few weeks.
I will not be there as a tug. Sorry,
Can't risk it at this point. I'm to close and put to much money in this to screw it up now.
If you only Aero-tow once a year, you don't want a newbie tug pilot anyway. Just trying to be safe.
Hope to see you all there.
Thanks,
Mark Knight

not the world's greatest video, but here's a clip of John getting yanked.
It should be noted that there was about a 10mph crosswind, which John handled very well.

I just posted a video of a tandem HG payout tow Eric Smith did with Debbie Hodge at Houser Road on Saturday. Check it out.
