Anyone game for South Mountain tomorrow (Saturday 21st).
I've never flown there and have been itching to try.

Morey,

I posted directions on AHGA.org for staging your car at the lz and hiking to the saddle. But to be sure, to be sure...

Park along E Granite View Dr before it doglegs right into E Desert View Ln. You could Google 1240 E Granite View Dr, but basically get off I-10 at E Chandler Blvd, go about 4miles and take R on S Desert Foothills Pkwy about a mile and then R onto E Granite View Dr.

If no one is there, just hike Nth up the wash and the trail will take you all the way to the saddle, which you'll see to the NW... on the map it's a big dogleg sth on E Telegraph Pass Rd.

It makes sense for anyone coming up from SAHGA to do the same.

If you or anyone else goes xc, we'll get you back to your car. HGs planning on landing in the lz might want to consider dropping off a car at the lz, then driving up. I helped Dustin hike his wing up the Nth launch and doable, but it aint pretty. :climb:

Parked my car at the LZ and enjoyed seeing a couple wings in the air. As I hiked through the LZ, Maria was landing, with Jorge right behind her after short soaring flights. A big thanks to Scott for meeting me right on time at the saddle. My chariot awaited. He even hooked me up with a waiver and a pen- good service. Good seeing and meeting ya'll, Chandler, Scott, Gavin, Randy, Jessica, KingAllen.

Good thermals, nabbed one that was peaking over 1400fpm. I rode a smooth one to 4600 that didn't drift too far back. I was right atop the towers, but it took me the better part of that 2000 vertical just to make it back to out in front of launch. Damn PGs are slow. There was a good 15kts or more of SSW flow above 4Kmsl so I can certainly see why everyone else just went over the back. Took two 30% hits today. Uneventful, but I think it has to do with being light on my wing. It was definitely happenin' today, but not powerful or scary. After bouncing around for an hour, and seeing the dust devils getting more numerous, taller and better shaped in the distant fields, I figured it was time to get on the ground and leave the air to those with aluminum assistance.

Thanks to all those in the AHGA that keep sites like this open. A real pleasure to join you.

It was great meeting/flying with Morey.

Hope to see you and others from SAHGA at our state's great flying sites, Nth Sth and in between.

I posted a pic from Sat so everyone can play "Where's Morey?"

Smooth air :naughty:

Nice flight Morey!
I`ve never been that high over South mountain.
Wish I had gone flying instead of spending my day getting 5 other people in the air! (Some time soon, I hope )

Eric
