Stupid Mustang weather is perfect 3 days straight during the week then it doesn't want to cooperate for the weekend! Wish I could join you guys. I guess I'll stay in Phoenix this weekend.

The day looked nearly perfect in the forecasts, but Guido and I were greeted by 10-20 mph WSW winds with gusts that appeared to push above 25 in the LZ. Lew was seeing similar conditions on launch around 3:00 p.m. Eventually the base-jumping speedwing pilots joined him on launch after having made some good flights earlier in the day. Nobody on launch seemed inclined to commit aviation anytime soon and the conditions were certainly not improving, so Guido and I elected to skip the hike, heading down the road around 4:30 p.m.

very cool footmount view!
The gopro wide is a way cool camera. Glad you're taking advantage of what it can do. Looks like you hit a little bump there at one point.

Ya, alot of bumps. If you noticed im trying to crab to the right almost the whole flight. Was getting pushed around alot up there, around the last 300 feet or so. Also why I got out of the harness a bit early, wasnt sure how the landing was gonna go! But I really like the gopro, and would like to do some more experimenting with it at different angles. I really would like to figure out a way to mount it to the wing like the PG's do.

speed wing advantage

Post by morey » Fri Mar 05, 2010 9:35 am

Man- glad you guys are enjoying your speed wings off Mustang.

I see another advantage of speed wings. You save a lot of time afterwards, as you don't need to edit the video. For we PG pilots, it sucks to have 3 hrs of video to have to edit at the end of the day down into less than 5 min.
