SAHGA meeting reminder for August, and an agenda item

Post by jlowery » Sun Aug 07, 2011 9:28 pm

Hi, everyone

This is a reminder that there will be a SAHGA meeting on Tuesday August 9th at 7:00 PM at the

Pizza Hut
2943 N. Campbell Avenue
Tucson

This will be an important meeting. There has been a request to amend the SAHGA by-laws to allow extended types voting by proxy (mail), email or on-line web voting. Currently, the by-laws allow only members present at a meeting to vote for officers and by-laws changes. The by-laws do not set voting rules for other matters.

Passing an amendments to the by-laws requires advance notice of the issue in the meeting announcement (this post), and currently requires 2/3 of the members present at the meeting to vote in favor.

So the issues will be:

1. Should extended voting be allowed at all?
2. If so, what type(s) of extended voting should be allowed?
3. How should it be decided if a matter should be put up for extended voting, or resolved by the members present at a meeting?
4. Any other questions related to administer extended voting?
5. If extended voting is not to be allowed, should the by-laws lay out voting rules for matters other than election of officers and amendment of the by-laws?

SAHGA members, please give some thought to these questions and come out to discuss them.

Guests, visitors and prospective members are always welcome. Please come out and say hello!

John

I'd like to vote in favor of amending the bylaws to allow voting by proxy. Of course- I won't be at the meeting to cast my vote. Doah!

Electronic voting on "contentious" issues for members who can't make the meeting passed by a 9 to 3 vote, and will be in place for the September meeting vote on the Rosemont issue. I'm sure John will post the particulars soon.

Thanks for the update on the vote outcome Mark.
Hopefully, ya'll came up with a fairly easy way to mechanize this jump into the 21st century.
