Anyone have any input for saturday and sunday?? Finally gettin a couple of days off...giveme a shout 615 681 3486.....also have a couple of friends in from wa.state lookin to go get a good flight or two...[/list][/u]
The winds aloft forecasts have been swinging around in terms of direction, but basically it looks high pressure, light and irritable (to use Morey's phrase) both days. YMMV, go to http://www.sahga.com/weather.html and check it out.
I wouldn't presume to advise the PG pilots, but none of the local sites look very good for HG at the moment.
Mingus looks decent Saturday and Sunday, and there are some HG pilots talking about going on their board. I'm having a hard time getting enthusiastic about the 3.5 hour drive each way, so I may sit this weekend out.
Damn, I miss Miller Canyon.

Scott would be referring to Box. As the upper level flow isn't consistent, the Lemmon doesn't look that good right now. But, as the ground warms, it creates an 'uphill' flow, which is from the NW. You may have noticed that Phoenix is lower than Tucson, and Sierra Vista is higher. This uphill/NW flow is often enough to overcome the iffy upper level winds and give us a flow that cruises up Box and gives us its stellar glassoffs.azwyatt wrote:What would clocking around NW in the PM mean? I think Mt. Lemmon was flyable today. Weather underground showed the surface wind coming out of the WSW starting around 10:00AM and the winds were light.

I saw some clouds over Mt. Lemmon around 1:30PM. Guessing around 10,500 ft.
Anyone interested in trying to fly Sunday?

Can anyone tell me if the Lemmon pg launch is any better for hg than the current hg launch? Im not concerned about the glide out, just the state of the launch, steepness, obstacles, etc. From second hand info it seems like there are two launches for pg?? One lower down and one hiking down from near the top...Im interested in the upper one if that is true.

Dustin,
We have a PG launch that we call Sanmaniego Ridge. It's a 2-mile, 1000 vertical foot hike _down_ from the top of Mt. Lemmon through the pines on a well maintained trail. This launch is suitable for HG and PG. Eric Smith can provide more details for you as he flew a Falcon from this launch last year.
We would love to have you join us for a flight from Sanmaniego Ridge.
