Miller Saturday?

Post by jlowery » Thu May 03, 2012 12:12 pm

It looks like a big-air weekend, if Soaring Predictor is right and the forecast holds. Miller is forecast S7 through 11 AM and then SW 15 by noon. Early arrival would be a must.

My Jeep is fixed from the debacle weekend before last. I plan on going out and could definitely use company. Anyone interested?

the forecast changed...

Post by jlowery » Fri May 04, 2012 9:02 am

The forecasts are now unanimous that it will be strong SW all day, from early morning on, and on Sunday as well. Miller will be unlaunchable. It now looks like the Whetstones will be the only usable site on either day.

Forecast for the 'Stones has the high temp at 82, not too bad. WSW winds 17 mph from 11 to 2, 20 mph from 2 to 4 PM, 18 from 5 to 7. Very high top of lift forecast. It could be very good. Of course, there is that whole "hiking up" thing...

Anyone interested, given the new venue? I think we would be leaving Tucson around 11 AM.

Yikes, 24 G 37 WSW today. Blown out for me, Rafael and Eric T. agree.

We'll look at the weather again tomorrow morning. The current forecast for tomorrow is slightly lighter but still strong and gusty, 20 G 30 WSW.

Hey, Tucker, did you end up going out Sunday? How did it go?

Eric Tucker

ya didn't miss anything

Yeah, we went to the Stones. Hiked up with just my bag and found a 45 deg. crossed from the left wind. We waited and waited and all of the strong cycles were crossed and pretty strong. Didn't want to lug my glider all the up only to end up upside down on launch or something. So we left and went to the Steak Out for food and beer in Sonoita.....argh.
