Hi all- I'm taking Mike Sargent- our newest member out for a glass off flight to box canyon today. Leaving town about 2:30. Hot hike but should be nice flying.

flight report

I took Mike Sargent out for his first southern Az. flight. We left town at 3pm and arrived on top of the lower knoll of Box Canyon 5:30. Man was it HOT!!!! 107* or so. Obviously no one had flown for awhile and the launch needed quite a bit of maintenance. Just as well, it was blowing 4 gusting to 18. Perfect for real cowboys but Mike being new and me being rusty it seemed a little strong. It finally settled down and Mike had a really nice launch. He played it a little conservative and sunk out after about 10 passes landing short of the LZ. I managed to have line tangles from hell. Who makes dental floss lines the same colr of the dead grass? After more than 30 minutes and 6 blown launches- did I mention it was HOT? I finally got off. By now it was very light blowing in 4-8 mph. It took a lot of scratching more than 30 passes but I worked my way above the peak by 150'. Yahoo- been a long time. Only for it to shut down and turn dark. Just for giggles I soared from the peak to the ridgeline to the north and then back to LZ for a 30 minute flight. Man can my Summit glide. Really lovin this new wing. Hope to repeat the process Sunday. Cheers. Ross
