Our Local Cross-country League

In 2012, our local XC league ran 8 tasks, with a total of 12 pilots participating in at least one task. Two of the Mingus fly-in tasks had 7 pilots on course. The 2012 season wrapped up with Andy Miller in first place with 1346 points, John Wolfe in second with 1338 point, and visiting pilot Wade Gonder taking third place with 715 points. The complete results can be found at https://sites.google.com/site/sazxcleague/.

Last year was fun, and we’re hoping for more participation this year. The format will be much the same this year: no entry fees, no prizes, and no divisions -- just task flying with scores for fun.

If you’ve never flown a race-to-goal task and you’re interested in trying it, then please consider attending the task-flying basics class to be held in the Phoenix area sometime soon (see the associated thread on AZHPA.org for this topic for details) or post your interest here, and we'll hold another session in Tucson (probably after a club meeting).

On the SAZXC League web site you will find two files containing waypoints, one for the southern part of the state, and another for the northern half. Please pull these files from the web site and learn to push the waypoints into your GPS. The SAZXC web site provides instructions for doing this.

Also on the league web site is a registration form. If you’ve flown with the league before, there is no need to register again as your pilot ID remains the same. If you’ve not yet flown with the league, please go the web site and register so we can assign a pilot ID to you, as you’ll need it when you push waypoints into your GPS.

Finally, please don’t assume that one of us must be on site to run a task. We have plenty of XC pilots in the state who are capable of setting a task. So, just do it, even if you only have two or three pilots out for the day. Set a task, fly it, and then send the task description and the track logs to John Wolfe, and he’ll score the task for you.
Last year everyone who participated at least pretended to enjoy it, so please plan to join us this year whenever you can.

I have registered the following pilots. Please make note of your pilot ID, as you'll need it when you push waypoints into your GPS. If you push your pilot ID into the GPS as described in the instructions on the league web site, it will make it much easier to score the task because the name of your track log will include your pilot ID.

If you have a CIVILID, please send it to me, and I'll add it to our database. Dave, I pulled 29801 for you from the database, so please ensure that this is actually yours.
