Miller this week

Post by Burch » Thu Aug 08, 2013 12:29 am

I am driving to Sierra Vista sometime before the end of this week. I have not flown Miller. A guide would be great. I have the LZ and launch locations, but it would be nice to have a local vet to come along. Plenty of room on my rack and 4WD vehicle. I have a local driver (My best friend who is from Sierra Vista). Can I get high with one or more of you southern pilots?

Which days are you planning to be in Sierra Vista? I've not started looking at weekend weather yet.

Burch,

I'd strongly encourage you to go with a local for your first flight at Miller. It's more likely to result in a flight that way, and the road to launch has a locked gate to deal with.

I understand there might be someone going down there tomorrow (Friday). Not sure, but if you're interested I can try to put you in touch.

The best forecast for the rest of the week is currently Sunday. I will probably be going down there with Eric Smith, and possibly one or two others. If you're planning on driving down that day let's plan on meeting in the LZ at 9 AM, which would have us ready to launch by 11 or 12.

At the moment the forecast looks pretty good for Miller, given the monsoon. There is a pretty good chance of OD, of course, but hopefully we'll be away by then.

It's a bit early, but at the moment, the Miller forecast is rather uninspiring for PG. If it improves, I will plan to join you on at least one of the weekend days.

I plan to be in Sierra Vista when weather is permitting to fly. My friend needs to get some furniture from family there, so we just need to go sometime this week.

Please let me know how it went today and whether anyone is planning to fly Miller tomorrow (Sunday). I'm considering either Oatman or Miller for Sunday.

Keep me updated. I would prefer Miller, but am open. That road to Oat is a pain though!

Indeed, the Oatman road is unpleasant, but I plan on enduring it only in one direction. Since Miller will likely overdevelop, and the forecast for the base winds is sub-optimal for PG, Mike and I will go to Oatman with a few of the Phoenix PG pilots. It would be great to have a gaggle of HG pilots out there with us. The southerly winds will work great for XC toward Prescott (yes, I'm optimistic).

Burch, John W.,

Eric Smith and and I are planning on going to Miller tomorrow, he has a couple of tandems booked and I just want to fly. We'll likely be in the LZ between 8:00 and 8:30 AM.

@JLo, how was Miller today?
@Burch, Mike and I are going to Oatman. I'm not wild about southerly winds at Mingus.
Some other Phoenix PG pilots are going to Humboldt. Looks like we'll have the state well covered.
