USHPA mobile coverage survey

Post by ioan » Wed May 14, 2014 7:26 am

I got the following message from USHPA. They implemented a text-message based rating verification system so one can verify a pilot's rating by sending a text to a designated number. They are doing a survey on how reliable the mobile phone service is at our sites.

I personally don't remember which site has coverage and how good it is but if you do, or will be at a flying site in the near future, please check the wireless service availability and let me know by posting on this topic here or directly by email. I would greatly appreciate it.

I will consolidate the posts and take the survey at the end of the week if we collect enough data.

"Hi!
As mentioned in the Spring 2014 Chapter Newsletter (sent via email last week), we have a new txt-based member information service up and running. We are evaluating some other programs that rely on mobile services, but need to know how many sites have reliable mobile phone service.

Please fill out the Chapter Site Connectivity Survey for each of your insured sites, along with any other sites your club members regularly fly:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FCP6TSF

The preliminary survey results will be tallied next Monday (May 19)."

Ioan, thanks for handling this.

My memory of ATT coverage at our sites is as follows:
Mt. Lemmon PG: good.
Mt. Lemmon HG: good.
Box Canyon PG Top and Lower: poor to none.
Miller Canyon: good.

Box Canyon launches are ok for Verizon. Don't know about other carriers.

Front LZ marginal coverage, back LZ poor-to-none.
