Memorial Day Weekend Flying

Post by John Wolfe » Wed May 21, 2014 2:26 pm

Ewan and I are hoping to fly a day or two this coming weekend. Please let us know if you’re interested.
If the weather looks right for it and we can convince a tow operator to join us, we are considering trying a new towing site near Wilcox. For the past few weeks Ewan and I have been watching the forecasts for the area, and it looks promising, with loads of XC potential. Mike and Ewan have already scouted the area on the ground and declared it suitable for a try.

Eloy was fun. Mike and Ewan made it to my house while I dirted about 1/3 of the way there.

Tomorrow (Monday) we're planning to fly Box Canyon, most likely from the lower launch. Planning to be on launch by 11:00. Post here or send me e-mail if you want a ride.

Thank you to all the guys out at Box on Monday who were on standby to come and try and find me. I lost radio contact shortly after I heard that Mike S had landed and even though I kept transmitting updates on my position I didn't receive anything. I plan on getting a SPOT so that this doesn't happen again!

In the end I was happily flying until shortly after 6pm when I called John W to let him know I was safely on the ground. The flight was a little over 90 miles straight line and I landed next to Hwy 80 northeast of Douglas. A very memorable flight and a personal best for distance.

Thanks again everyone for your concern.

Ewan

Absolutely amazing flight, Ewan. It was a privilege and an adventure to retrieve you. And, I want to thank you for landing near a road and then calling me as soon as you were on the ground.

WOW, great flight Ewan.
If you want, you can borrow my inReach. I'm alone with the kids for another three weeks and I'm not going to fly. I just need it back before I head out to Wood Rat around June 20th.
Just give me a call if you want it.

Tucker

I wish I could share the track log... unfortunately my GPS managed to get turned back on inside my bag at some point after I packed up. It was on so long it had over-written the flight :(

I can share my landing location: N31.505 W109.317

My route was roughly: Box - Mustang - Whetstone Town - Tombstone - McNeal - Hwy 80 approx 12 miles NE of Douglas - followed 80 until landing

Ewan
