March 4th

Hi everyone

XC season has started!

A group headed out to Hauser Rd yesterday (4th). Dane and Alan got morning flights, followed by Hugh. Then John Wolfe and I launched with a rough plan to fly back to John's house in Oro Valley.

In the end we were just short, landing a few miles east of I-10 near Tangerine, for a straight line total of 30 miles. Cloud base was quite low to start with and it was a bit cold to spend any length of time above 6000ft (at least that's how I justify spending so much time in the weeds...). Anyway, a great way to dust off the winter cobwebs!

Thanks to everyone who came out for the day, especially Aaron for providing the necessary tug into the air and Alan and Ruth for chasing Ewan and me down the highway.

How high did you get?, Wasn't much of anything above 1200 AGL when I was flying earlier~

Top of lift was forecast for roughly 8K. I topped out around 7100 near Newman and then 7300 over Marana. I think Ewan had similar peaks, but we both spent the majority of the flight between 4K and 6K. Needless to say, it was slow going, but it was definitely amusing.
