Miller Fly-in

Post by jlowery » Fri Sep 25, 2015 6:24 pm

NOAA winds aloft says breezy SE at launch altitude at 11 AM Saturday morning but lighter SE or even E in the afternoon. If that turns out to be the case it could be a nice day.

Last I heard Rafael is camping in the Carr campground.

I plan on leaving Tucson before 7 AM to be in the LZ by 8:30 and returning to Tucson in the after everyone lands. I have a HG rack if anyone wants to throw on and ride with me. In any case I'll be at Miller launch by 10 am to help with launches and later to be a driver if needed.

Sunday conditions look lighter, 5-7 but still SE, and even lighter SE in the afternoon. I plan on driving down with Eric Smith and being in the LZ by 9 AM.

Call or text if you want to car-pool. See you there!

I'll have another look at the forecast in the morning (Saturday) and then make a decision. Maybe the afternoon will work.
I'm planning to head down to Miller on Sunday. If we can't launch from the mountain, hopefully we can tow PGs from the roads in the valley.

Today's forecast (Saturday) is not inspiring, so we're pinning our hopes on Sunday.
We'll head down to Miller tomorrow, with the winch, and if we cannot launch from the mountain (or we launch and dirt), we'll tow somewhere.

Thanks to everyone who came out today. We managed five pleasant PG flights, with Alan and Bernhard getting their first flights from Miller Canyon. Andy and Jennifer turned up, and he joined Aaron and me in the air, and then of course stayed aloft long after Aaron and I had landed.
Thanks very much to Rafael, Deb, and Jason who came to launch with us, put up streamers, fluffed our wings, and then drove my truck to the LZ. It almost felt like a fly-in. And, thanks to Alan for keeping Jennifer company while driving Andy's truck down the mountain.
It was a really lovely day at Miller Canyon.
