Training Hill Sat

Post by Jerry » Wed May 26, 2004 9:31 am

I'm planning on going to the training hill Saturday morning. I've been kiting in a park at Craycroft and Golflinks and was finally able to keep the canopy up for over 2 minutes...then I ran out of park as the wind kept dieing.

Anybody else want to play?

Whetstones Flight report

Post by Eric » Sat May 29, 2004 8:13 pm

We drove out to the Whetstones after working on the training hill. Jason and Sherry and Chuck and I. Conditions looked good at the LZ, 10 to 12 SW. We hiked our gear up, it took awhile! Nice workout, from what I remember.
I launched into 12 to 15 WSW, the climb out was steady to 500 over, then the work began, benching up to 8500 meant dropping back half way to the spine. I finally climbed out to 10,000 msl at the ridgeline, too low to go over the back. I penetrated out front and picked up another thermal and worked it up.. I flew northeast behind the launch area quite a bit with some Ravens and one small hawk. This went on for two hours, low point was 5700msl over the lz. I picked up a thermal at the lz (actually it was too strong to land in) and drifted all the way back to the ridge line of the mountains, getting to 10250 msl!! O well !
Mean while conditions picked up and Chuck hiked down.
I landed around 5, max lift 1280 fpm, max sink 1201 fpm. Chuck was right, a little gusty for a Falcon.
A nice lifty afternoon of flying in Southern Arizona!
