Mt. Lemon Flight report Friday 11 June 2004

Post by Eric » Sun Jun 13, 2004 2:13 pm

Friday afternoon Ken and I drove up the Lemon. I brought the brush saw and we trimmed some bushes. The launch conditions were ssw 3 to 8 mph.
It looked like we would get a lot of trimming done! Late afternoon cycles seemed to come up the ramp at 4 to 6 mph from the w. I set up the Fusion tout sweet and was launched by 630. The light sw had a nice lift to it and no real head wind for a topless. I did not get anything to circle in until Carridera canyon. I climbed to 11000msl over the canyon in front of launch in the ne drifting thermal. I ran the spine to the head of Romero canyon and glided to the head of Pima canyon. Caught some light lift over Table mt. took it to 6500msl. As predicted the winds, light as they were, shifted to nw. This allowed me to glide into the Tucson valley. I headed for Swan road and the River. I cleared the towers and it looked like I was set for a River bed landing. At Swan and River road it was looking too close to call. I put the Fusion down in a wash on the east side of Swan about 180 feet south of River road. Tight spot but it worked. Ken showed up about 50 minutes later. He looked happy for the short drive. I enjoyed another Lemon flight short but sweet, 55 minutes!
Thanks Ken.
