Advice on schools in Santa Barbara?

Post by Alan » Thu Dec 30, 2004 11:05 am

My wife and I would like to try out paragliding, and were advised that it would be easier and safer to begin in Santa Barbara. There seem to be two major outfits there and they both use the same training hill; www.flyaboveall.com and www.eagleparagliding.com. Could anyone give us advice on which we should choose? Thanks very much!

I think that they are both pretty reputable outfits. It's possible that most of us on this list aren't really familiar with their instructors. You might want to post on:

Where far more PG pilots hang out. You may also want to have people contact you directly about their opinions, as they might not be willing to post their opinions in such a public forum.

Hi Alan,

I just went through 1 week at Eagle/Airplay in Santa Barbara and loved it. Will have to go back out in the near future to finish up the P2 certification though. It was a time efficency decision for me to go out there and learn instead of doing it in AZ, even Scott H. told me to do that. I did over 30 flights on the training hill in 5-6 days span starting from zero. I was setting up to do the high flight out of the Skyport and to land in LZ Parma, but I was too nervous because that was a BIG difference than the training hill. I am trying to get some kitings and mid-level flying done in either in Phx. or Tucson area when the condition/time is right along with some help with the local pilots. Then I will go back out to finish my course. If you want more info. on Santa Barbara feel free to call me at 480-282-8407. I live in Phx.
