I've got Saturday and Sunday free also and I would love to join in where ever you all end up going.

I finally got time to hike out ot the mustangs, just to check it out, and I'm thinking I could definitely handle that the next time you all are free and the weather is good.

Carr Canyon is closed

Post by Scott » Fri Jan 21, 2005 3:21 pm

Just spoke with the ranger. Carr canyon is closed, not likely to open until they can get a grader up there in the spring. She mentioned that they don't really have the funding to maintain the road and it is likely that the road availablity will be reduced in the future.

See member post, Miller closed. I will advise when open. The recent rain will most likely take care of the problem, if it rains enough. As Flight Director I have been in touch with the ranger weekly. The north faces melt slowly. The road will be open when the snow melts off to expose the soil. Presently the snow melts daily and ice forms every evening.

Trying out new site

Post by Ross » Sat Jan 22, 2005 9:38 am

Gunter and I are meeting at Green Valley at 11:30 to scout out and hopefully fly a new site at Tumacacori Peak near Tubac. The mountain faces n,e,s. 1500 vertical, looks like about equal to Box Canyon as far as the hike goes. Call me at 490-3333 if interested. Ross

Sites

In the general area you spoke of I flew a place called Montana butte. It was located above california gulch, out by Rube, It was a hike up site a thousand feet high with a very small lz in the gulch below. I think it woud make a good PG site in south winds. I launched from the grassy slope at the base of the cliff that ran along the south face, that was in 1978, so it`s been awhile.
