I'm looking hard for a new south, east, and Northeast site so we don't have to go all the way to Miller. Has anyone checked out this site?

Yeah. Eric flew this once in 1974. It was in a standard (i.e. rogallo) HG that he build himself, then modified to achieve a 4.4 glide ratio. He hiked up to the top of this hill, then camped out there for 2 days to clear a launch. He landed in a small spot between 11 mesquite trees, right next to the cholla- which is still there today, but quite a bit larger. a fine LZ for a standard, but once the Comet came out the LZ wasn't big enough any more so he didn't continue flying the site.

It looks like a perfect site for the 4 days a year that it blows light eastnortheast. Let's go!

I disagree Morey. In the winter, how often would it be flyable on post frontal days when the winds are out of the east to northeast. Hopefully I will have pics to back up my crow to serve you to eat.

Gravel Pit, Wildhorse- other east sites

The Gravel Pit works in a East wind. Easy drive. Easy hike. Land next to your car right by the highway.

Also, there is Wildhorse, where I took some of my first mountain PG flights. Just north of Benson. Need a good 4WD to get there, but after that it's only a 600ft vertical hike and a nice bowl.

I agree that wildhorse is a beautiful fun site but rugged 4x4 is needed. I did notice that there is another road north of the one that goes directly to wildhorse that looks less steep. You end up at the same elevation and LZ should be a little bigger. I would be interested in going there to check that out some day.The gravel pit is pretty tentative place to fly. The steepest launch in all of Az. and not an easy place to soar. I think I am 1 for 6 there. Gunter I live and work here in Green valley so just trying open up some options nearby.
