Arjan Memorial Fly In

Post by Scott » Thu Feb 17, 2005 4:32 pm

It's hard to believe it has been seven years. But, on the other hand, an awful lot has changed since Arjan died.

It was March 1, 1998. This year, we have February 26-27 and March 5-6 on either side of March 1. Instead of scheduling the fly-in for either weekend, I think I'll be at Box with my PG whenever conditions are good.

Keep your schedules flexible and come out if the weather cooperates.

Ok so you just keep a cooler packed and the glider handy and don't schedule anything those weekends. Sounds like a game plan.

Feb 26th a group of SAHGA pilots are going to the training hill. I was hoping you would come along and join us. It would be nice to finish out the day at box, flying. Seven years!! Please keep us informed. I would like to get together in rememberance of our friend Arjan.

Arjan would love it

A day at the training hill would be a fitting memorial to Arjan's memory. If it's not raining, I'll be there. Wouldn't it be nice to finish the day with a glass off at Box?

I would like to know where the training hill is located. Will someone shed some light?

Head towards Sonoita. A few miles before you get there, take a left (east) on Curly Horse ranch road. Drive on the dirt road (good quality) while it makes some 90 degree lefts and rights. Then keep following it for a mile or two. As you are facing north, you should see the hill in front of you (a small knob of sorts), just about that time you hit a fork in the road. Take the direction that leads you to the hill in front of you, I think it's a left.

We call this Charlie's hill, and is good for the normal light SW that blows in the morning in Sonoita.
