Sat Flying report

Post by Eric » Sun Mar 20, 2005 9:11 am

Saturday morning the weather looked, well, wet!
Dave Snyder and I left my place a little later than planned. A check of the winds aloft, after the morning balloon went up showed quite a breeze.
At this point it did not look like a beginner day. We headed out to do some launch and landing practice any how.
We arrived at Charleys around 9, minor mechanicl problem aside.
Jorge was all ready assembled on top of the hill. One small problem it was raining! We waited it out, Mike Warford, Dave, Jorge,Justin and I.
The sky cleared from the west and we assembled and did several ground runs each. Jorge flew from the top of the hill.
We all flew the 195 Falcon from the hill ground skimming the shallow slope of the west hill. At 1 we left to eat lunch in Sonotia.
Mike and Justin and I wanted to check out the Stones so.. We arrived at the Stones LZ to find south west winds of 10 to 15mph. After a little rearanging of gliders, I had 3 trainers on the roof. We drove up and hiked up..and hiked ... Mike helped me carry his Talon to launch to get a test flight in it. Justin and Mike hiked his glider to launch while I assembled the Talon. We were sitting pretty with good launch cycles right up until I was set up, the wind quit! I waited for 40 minute for the breeze to return and it did! Justin and I launched and soared around for 15 to 20 minutes. I climbed to 7760msl and headed for the LZ as yet more rain was approaching! Justin got his second saoring flight at the Stones. We both had good landings and broke down in the light rain.
Another Sat soaring in Southern Arizona!

Eric, thanks for attempting the training hills despite the weather. Glad you and Justin got a little airtime at the Stones.
