A Flying Weekend
Moderators:ioan, John Wolfe, aaroncromer, jlowery
Early notice that it may be a good flying weekend, especially for PG's. The way I read it preliminarely is that Sat. may be a glass off at Box. (winds SSW @9-6mph, in GV, from 6 to 7pm).
And on Sun. looks like a Miller morning, 6mph ESE.
Let's all make plans to fly. It would really be great to see all the old rags come out of the closet. The look much prettier in the air.
Will keep you updated. Call me on cell 520-906-0182.

Saturday Forecast
Based on tonight's forecast, I'd have to agree with the east coast guy, probably blown out unless it mellows enough by glassoff time. Also, it's going to be a hot afternoon hike up anything this weekend. But there's another forecast in the AM. By the way, how's the flying over them eastern trees?

John, as of 10:30 a.m. I'm still planning to go to Box Canyon, unless thinks change drastically by later this afternoon. My tentative plan is to be in the Box Lz by 4pm; up at launch by 5pm; and in the air around 5:30pm. I'm hoping by then the wind velocity at launch should be around 13 - 15 mph. By 6:30pm it should be around 10 mph. I'll just have to see how it works out. Green Valley winds at 7pm (just after sunset) are expected to be around 5mph. I expect a late glass off may be possible.
If you're not familiar on how to get there, call me and i can meet you somewhere.

PS. Guido what are your plans?

Saturday Forecast Update
Just got back from an early morning motor flight. The morning winds aloft update is still calling for pretty brisk SW winds that might or might not mellow about sunset. Best of luck Gunter, let us know how the actual conditions turned out. Eric, I'll check this evening's forecast and give you a call about the training hills.
Gunter, see you at 4.00 p.m at the landing zone. Currently the winds seem not to be too strong... at least what I currently see from todays measurements at

Gunter, John and me flew yesterday at Box around 6 pm. Gunter launched first and (as usual) was circling high above us somewhere in the 6000 feed range in another sphere.....I launched as second and could stay about 400 feet over the lower launch. Meanwhile the wind direction changed to south, which gave John a hard time to launch. After numerous attempts his tethers are messed up and it was already dark. Therefore he was obliged to walk down, which was tough in the moonlight. But he made it and so we could relax with some beverages in Gunters garden...
Today John and me want to try Box Canyon again if the winds are not so strong like yesterday. We will meet at 3.30 p.m. at the LZ.
