Miller road work and fire damage
Over the weekend a couple of us - Tom Morrison, Rafael Ramirez, Debbie Hodge and I - did a few hours on the Sonoita Training hill, and then decided to check out Miller since the Carr road has opened. The fire damage was failry limited down low. There was a large burnt-out area along highway 92 betwe...

Miller next week? (Friday is on, report added)
The long-range forecast on Soaring Predictor http://www.soaringpredictor.info/phoenix/Miller_Canyon.htm looks as if there might be some reasonably good soaring days at Miller Canyon next week. Provided the forecasts pan out I plan on going there with Tom Morrison to check the place out and hopefully...

USFS road changes and our flying sites
The US Forest Service Coronado National Forest has been working since late 2011 on significant changes to the forest road system. There was some concern that this would affect our flying sites, which are mostly in the Coronado NF. At last night's meeting Secretary/Treasurer Jason Otto brought in an ...

Finally, some good news on Miller Canyon!
http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coronado/news-events/?cid=STELPRDB5362526 Carr canyon road is now open to vehicle traffic, all the way to the top. The Reefs campgrounds are now open, as well. Apparently I got wrong information from the USFS office (the July 31st date), but I'm not complaining. It look...

Survey: what would increase your participation in SAHGA?
We've had a string of meetings with low attendance and several without sufficient members present for a quorum to conduct business. We'd like to know what you think would improve your participation in SAHGA. Would a different location, day or time make the difference? Inviting speakers to give prese...

Oatman report
I threw on with Rafael and Debbie for the trip from Tucson to Oatman on Saturday morning. We met up with Orrin Smith and Taylor at the Petroglyphs just before we got there, and we found Jason Otto there with Kimba, they drove up Friday morning. Nice Tucson contingent. Jason said that several pilots ...

Upper Carr now open to pedestrians and cyclists
Another change. Pedestrians and cyclists can now use upper Carr Canyon road. Vehicles are still excluded. No explanation is given other than "public safety". Apparently you're safer on foot or on a bicycle than in your car/truck. http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coronado/news-events/?cid=STELPRDB535953...
