As of thursday morning, ADDS is saying 10 from the SE at 6k and 9k for Saturday mid day. granted this is really too early to tell, but it's looking good for Miller for this coming weekend. Eric and I are scheduled to head on down. I'll be demonstrating how to sink out in a demo WW Sport2 (with hope...

E.C. If I happen to be in San Diego, I'll take my wing and try and get some airtime/practice time in at Torrey. But we, as a group, tend not to travel there to fly. Or, at least not often. Torrey certainly would be a time efficient way to indoctrinate yourself into the sport. You'll get more kiting...

Flying right before sunset is often very nice. But, before you do... understand Catabatic Flow . Typically, late in the day, wind will still be coming in briskly on launch, while the cool air of the evening is moving in the opposite direction down the mountain. Wind in the LZ may be 180degrees from...

sworn duty
Don't you all understand that if you get to experience airtime, that it is your sworn duty to recant the tale for others to live vicariously?

Bring your camera
Ryuta, Bring your camera. Miller is a beautiful site. The Aspen trees might just be starting to turn their fabulous flourescent yellow color. You'll be standing atop a rugged cliff, with 9,500ft mountains behind you, and a wide open valley in front, 3000ft below. :D With the southeast flow predicted...

sunday
I'm only available on Sunday. Looks like it will be too south to southwest for Miller. Might be a Whetstones day- or, like you mentioned, I hope A mtn will be flyable. It could be on the edge of south to southwest. No fun landing in the LZ in a rotor.

Up Air and Down Air
Air going up is always rougher than air going down. I learned this from one of Dennis Pagan's books years ago. The compression that the air is undergoing when it is sinking, provides a naturally stabilizing effect. So, that's one of the few nice things about down air. It's generally smooth. Oh... r...

thanks for the report
john, thanks for the flight report. What a great day. I truly enjoyed my first HG flight since Feb. The Xtralite still flies great and it was a real pleasure to be in a HG when tackling the Miller Monster. Most of the lift I encountered in the hills was pretty mellow, but I nabbed a nice one with s...
