Oatman report
Saturday turned out to be a really nice day for flying. Eric Smith, his student <s>Tim</s> Ken, Rafael Ramirez, and I arrived around 10:30 and found about 10 HG already set up waiting on conditions. There wasn't much room left to set up, so we staged our gear waiting for someone to move out. It was ...

Saturday HG (report added)
Eric, Rafael and I are headed to Oatman for the day on Saturday. They're having a little fly-in. Predicted S11-13, not terribly high top of lift but it looks like it might be good. Sunday looks lighter, S7, and lower. Jason Otto also said he was going, I haven't heard from anyone else locally but it...

The winds aloft forecasts have been swinging around in terms of direction, but basically it looks high pressure, light and irritable (to use Morey's phrase) both days. YMMV, go to http://www.sahga.com/weather.html and check it out. I wouldn't presume to advise the PG pilots, but none of the local si...

RGSA Dry Canyon Fly-in at Alamagordo, Oct. 7-10
Robin Hastings of the RGSA sent me a reminder about their Columbus Day fly-in at Dry Canyon in Alamagordo, October 7th - 10th. If you've never been it's definitely worth the drive. Dry Canyon is a spectacular west-facing H3/P3 site that overlooks the town of Alamogordo and the White Sands national m...

Bad news on Miller Canyon
There is no longer an opening date shown for upper Carr Canyon road on the Coronado NF website at http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coronado/RemainingClosuresJuly2011.htm . Everything else has reopened. I just spoke to someone at the USFS Sierra Vista ranger district office, and he said that upper Carr road w...

Re: PG Instructor
Hi, Scott
It sounds like you're thinking of A.J. Frye, out of Bisbee, but he went north for the summer. I don't know when/if he'll be back.
The nearest active instructor I know of is in Phoenix, where there are a couple.
Sorry,
John

"A" flight and maintenance report.
Soren - Thanks, but I didn't see this until after we finished for the day. It was a nice direction but pretty light when we got to launch. We watched it until around 11:30 and decided it wasn't going to blow strong enough. But the ramp was looking terrible so we all went and got tools and materials ...

"A" mountain possible Saturday
A couple of us are going to try "A" mountain on Saturday. It isn't predicted to be real strong, but it might be enough and the direction looks good. I should be out there around 9-10 to do any LZ prep before we go up. If you haven't flown there before, the "A" requires a signed waiver and time to ge...
