Re: Weekend trek to Phoenix/Prescott? (Report)
Eric Smith and I met Eric Tucker and Raquel at Mingus around 11 AM. We found three HG's already set up, and no PG pilots. On the way up the back we noticed it had already started blowing southwest in the Chino valley. At launch it was blowing in pretty strong (10-12) and mostly crossing slightly rig...

Andy: It will be, in the afternoon, but under 10 kts. Mingus is a lee-side site, you launch in the morning. Soaring Predictor ( http://www.soaringpredictor.info/flagstaff/Mingus.htm ) forecasts east 0-3 kts until two PM. No idea if it will actually work out that way. I'm told that Mingus launch pull...

Re: Weekend trek to Phoenix/Prescott?
It looks like Friday will be better than Saturday or Sunday for Mingus, so Eric and I are leaving 6 AM tomorrow for a day trip to try to fly there. According to Bill Bennett and Allen Housel, Sunday might work for South Mountain. Don't know if I'll be making that trip after the Mingus round-trip, th...

Weekend trek to Phoenix/Prescott?
Since just about everything down here that's suitable for HG is closed due to fire danger, I'm thinking about driving up to Phoenix or Prescott to fly this weekend. Not decided yet between a day trip or camping overnight Saturday, and not sure where we might end up flying, although if Mingus is work...

Coronado N.F. will close noon Thursday due to fire danger
I guess we knew this was coming but it's sad. I just confirmed by phone with the USFS Huachua ranger district that they will be closing the Coronado National Forest at noon on Thursday. The gate across the road to the Carr campground (and our access to the Miller launch) will be locked. I also recei...

Sunday Miller?
Both Saturday and Sunday look like they could work for Miller, light winds aloft forecast both days. Sunday looks a little better to me, with 6000' winds predicted light south in the morning and light northwest in the afternoon. It will be hot and generally high-pressure conditions. Dr. Jack predict...

Wanted: PG digital photos, local pilots and sites
I'm trying to get together a few large reprints of flying photos with Miller, Box, Mustangs, Whetstones or Mt. Lemmon in the background for our booth at the National Get Outdoors Day event in Parker Canyon Lake on June 11th. I have copies of some really nice HG photos that Dave Snyder did with Mille...

Video: Speedwing launch gone bad
Scary video via Sean Buckner at AZHPA. I honestly don't know how this guy survived:

Re: Box Report
Damn, I'm sorry to hear about Lew's accident. Glad to hear he's doing ok at the hospital.
Get well soon, Lew!
Out of curiosity, did paramedics have to stretcher him to the LZ for extraction? Midnight seems like an awfully long wait.

Weekend weather - ugh
Basically, hot and honkin' southwest. The long-range winds-aloft forecast at UCAR http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/model/index.php?model=gfs indicates that with the jet right on top of us we can expect howling southwest (more or less) from Friday through Monday. It doesn't look any better for Prescot...
